Judith & Pradeep – Central Park engagement portraits

November 15th, 2011

We’ve had such incredibly beautiful weather this month with the fall colors hitting their peak and surprisingly balmy temperatures.  I’ve loved being able to spend much of the month photographing couples and families outdoors. The light in the fall is so different than the summer.  With the shorter days we can have some incredible light midday filtering through the trees.  Of course all that color is also fun to play with.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Judith and Pradeep before photographing their wedding next April.  I always tell couples that these sessions are not only fun, but a great way for us to get know each other and for them to become comfortable posing for photos.  The aim, of course, is for it to not feel like posing.  That’s where talking ahead of time about ideas and locations than have an appeal for each couple is really important.  Both Judith and Pradeep love spending time in natural settings so Central Park with all it’s variety seemed a great choice.  We even ran into Big Bird there.

Super cool flash mob proposal

November 15th, 2011

I couldn’t resist posting this wonderful, fun proposal on the London underground.  Apparently the prospective groom, Adam, had to sabotage Lucy’s car when she considered driving to work that morning rather than take the train.

Bernadette & Andrew, Central Park Portraits

November 2nd, 2011

I wish I’d been able talk Bernadette and Andrew into letting me photograph their city hall wedding.  They put a wonderful spin on the day by enjoying a ferry ride to Staten Island to the city hall there to make things more romantic.  Love is just as sweet the second time around….Bernadette said she’d found her soulmate in Andrew.

These are some of the portraits I did of them before their quiet, elegant dinner for friends at MOMA.  Only MOMA would come up with such a cool MODERN wedding cake…I just had to show it off.

Mona & Jason’s Indian wedding – Old Greenwich, Connecticut

September 22nd, 2011

When I met Mona and Jason they’d already tied the knot legally and their traditional Indian wedding was a year away. Having grown up with my set of Indian parents it didn’t surprise me at all that it made Mona’s parents happy (or maybe they insisted?) that they took that legal step before they moved in together. I’ve actually known Indian couples that didn’t tell their parents they were living together before they got married! Things are changing, but we Indians can be very traditional and we are big on the BIG Indian wedding. Though they were already married their wedding still had that special feeling that comes with celebrating your marriage with your family and friends watching. They had a fun vibe together that came across beautifully in photos.

Same-sex weddings – Pop up Wedding Chapel

August 1st, 2011

I had the pleasure of photographing Kristin and Sam’s wedding this past weekend on the first Saturday same-sex weddings were legal in New York at the Pop up Chapel at Merchant’s Gate in Central Park.  Kristin and Sam are a very cute young couple who connected over a shared love of Harry Potter in college.  Reverend Annie Lawrence, who married them, shares the same love of Harry Potter and brought her wizard outfit along on Saturday.  I love the bright blue shoes with the guest’s rainbow suspenders in the background.

Twenty four very happy couples were married in Central Park’s at an all day event put together by a fantastic group of volunteers and sponsored by the Knot.  Congratulations to all 24!

Rebecca & David’s wedding celebration, Blue Hill at Stone Barns

July 5th, 2011

Rebecca and David brought their newborn daughter, 2-month-old Adelaide, with them to Brooklyn City Hall to get married the day before their wedding celebration at Blue Hill at Stone Barns.  Though the price seems to have gone up from $25 to $35 for a marriage license it definitely ranks as the most low-cost wedding ceremony I can think of.

David is a coffee guy and works for Intelligentsia.  The couple literally met over coffee in Seattle since Rebecca’s company was doing pr for a coffee company David worked for.  For their wedding not only did they have the wonderful food (check out the petite cocktail burgers!) at Blue Hill for their small, intimate celebration they had 3 world barista champions as guests and ended the night with a fun coffee service.

Everything was a lush and beautiful green for the celebration.  If you haven’t been to Blue Hill at Stone Barns it’s a working farm open to visitors.  Much of the incredible food comes from the farm itself. They raise chickens, cows, sheep and turkeys.  The lambs were just 3 weeks old. It’s a wonderful place to visit and, of course, a great place for a wedding celebration.

Bollywood-style 1st Birthday Party

May 5th, 2011

Thanks to my friend and great event planner, Rashi Shyam (Event Nirvana), I had the pleasure of meeting Raju Sethi and his wife, Hansita, this past Saturday as I photographed their twin’s first birthday party. Raju runs AVS, the most watched Indian entertainment show in the US. Not many kids get birthday wishes via video from some of India’s biggest Bollywood stars. Not to mention hear a live performance by G-Deep, the first American Punjabi artist to be signed by Times Music, Indian’s biggest music label. To see more pictures check out the Facebook Album from the event.

G-Deep performs for the guests.

Rashi decorated with a Bollywood movie theme.

That cute movie theme again for party favors!

Radhika Photography portrait session in Auction – Rocking the Boat

May 4th, 2011

Items up for auction include sailing lessons and a family portrait session from Radhika Photography.  This is a benefit to support a great organization, Rocking the Boat, that gets disadvantaged kids in the South Bronx involved with wooden boat building and on-water education programs. They serve over 2,700 young people and community members each year. It’s such a great idea and as a sailor I’m all for it. So please consider buying a ticket for the night or taking part in the online auction.
