Marcella and Brendan are from Hong Kong and will be getting married there next July. Since Brendan is studying at Columbia Business School they thought it would be fun to do their wedding portraits around New York City. I photographed their friends’ wedding last spring and Michelle had put Marcella in touch with me. I’m not sure they had any idea what they were getting in for….I think they now can appreciate the work that models do each day. It was a long but fun day and we managed to get great shots in a variety of locations including Bow Bridge in Central Park and Fifth Avenue. The highlight of Marcella’s day may have been the burger at at the Central Park Boathouse though!

October 5th, 2009Ceremony & Reception: Ritz Carlton, Battery Park, New York
Michelle and Vineet didn’t let gray skies and rain get in the way of a fun-filled wedding. While I was photographing another wedding at a vineyard on Long Island my associate photographers spent the day with them.
Melissa and Nitin, Tarrytown, New York
August 24th, 2009Melissa and Nitin had a lovely Indian wedding despite a rainy day in Tarrytown.

Jessie & Humberto’s wedding in Long Island City, New York
August 17th, 2009Jessie and Huberto got married on my birthday and I was totally taken by surprise to be asked to blow out a candle on a birthday cupcake (some of the best chocolate I’ve had in a long while!). It tells you what kind of thoughtful people they are. They had some interesting elements to their wedding day including a skeleton bride and groom as a decorative piece. When I asked about that Jessie explained it was the idea of “till death do us part”.
PORTRAITS: DUMBO, Brooklyn
WEDDING & RECEPTION: The Foundry
Jennifer & David’s portraits in Tribeca, New York
August 5th, 2009I photographed Jennifer and David’s wedding celebration back in April and thanks to a whole lot of rainy days in New York City we didn’t get around to their portrait session till July. They wanted to have some fun pictures of the two of them on the cobblestone streets of their neighborhood, Tribeca, as well as on the rooftop of their apartment building.
Health Care for the Uninsured/Time.com
August 4th, 2009Time.com just published my multimedia photo story on Remote Area Medical, a non-profit group based in Knoxville, TN that provides much needed health care services in the U.S. and overseas. They treated over 2,700 people in three days in Wise, Virginia. Mark Rykoff and Nick McClelland at Time did a great job putting the story together and it was a pleasure to work with them on my first multimedia story.
WPJA Contest
July 13th, 2009The judges of the Wedding Photojournalism Association (WPJA) selected this photo for recognition in the quarterly contest for 2009 from a wedding I photographed in March in Bangalore. I’ve been meaning to post a selection of the images, but in the meantime I thought I’d share this one image.
Leanne & Sebastian / Central Park Boathouse, NY
June 16th, 2009Leanne contacted me about her marriage to Sebastian while I was in India on a magazine assignment. She had a clear idea of what she was looking for and was happy to hire me as her photographer after an hour-long phone call via skype (boy, do I love that technology) despite the distance and not meeting in person. When I finally got to meet her and Sebastian, chatting at great length over a meal, they were exactly as I expected; a fun, relaxed, easy going couple. They had two beautiful locations picked out including the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Central Park Boathouse. Though it’s been a pretty rainy spring and summer so far they were lucky enough to have great weather. The mix of Sebastian’s friends and family from Chile and Leanne’s southern U.S. roots made for an incredibly fun group and a beautiful day.
Getting Ready: Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Nellie & Jim / DUMBO, Brooklyn
June 16th, 2009When Nellie and I talked about her upcoming portrait session with her fiance, Jim, she expressed concerns about how awkward they might feel posing for the camera. I kept reassuring her that I always make it a fun and relaxed shoot even if I have to tell bad jokes to make them laugh! After discussing several locations we settled on the Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO. DUMBO is one of my favorite places for portraits both for the great views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the cobblestone urban street scenes. They ended up having a lot of fun posing for the photos. We were having such a great time that once we got done we headed for pizza and beer at the famous Grimaldi’s pizza place next to the Brooklyn Bridge. Lucky for us there wasn’t the usual long line out front.
